The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) has released the results of its Impact Survey, revealing the remarkable success and influence of its members in the association events industry. With a response rate exceeding 50%, the survey captures the collective achievements and trends of ABPCO’s membership throughout 2023, offering insights into the upcoming year.
Key findings from the survey underscore the significant economic contribution of ABPCO members, with 57% generating turnovers exceeding £1 million. In 2023 alone, these professionals contributed £23.2 million through exhibition space purchases and £43.2 million through sponsorships, showcasing their professionalism and reach.
Despite the past year’s challenges, ABPCO members organized 3,280 events, attracting 610,000 participants, with 82% of events held in person. These events spanned critical sectors such as health sciences, manufacturing, professional services, finance, and government, highlighting the diverse and strategic focus of ABPCO members.
Moreover, ABPCO’s influence extends nationally and internationally, with members hosting 318 national meetings, 346 inbound international meetings, and submitting 158 international meeting bids. This underscores the global connectivity and influence of the UK association events industry.
Looking ahead to 2024, ABPCO members have already confirmed 2,360 event bookings and secured over 6,800 provisional bookings, indicating confidence in the industry’s growth and their ability to foster connections across sectors.
Heather Lishman, ABPCO’s Association Director, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting members through training, development, and community engagement, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to the UK economy and professional landscape.
Dr. James Musgrave, who led the research, underscored the survey’s significance in highlighting members’ economic impact, leadership, and role in driving innovation and professional growth across the UK. He stressed the importance of collective support for the sector’s development and resilience.
