Aarti Holla-Maini, a prominent figure in the space sector, has been appointed as the Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, as announced by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Taking over from Simonetta Di Pippo of Italy, Holla-Maini brings with her more than 25 years of professional experience in managerial and advocacy roles within the space industry. Previously serving as the Executive Vice-President of Sustainability, Policy, and Impact at NorthStar Earth & Space, she also held the position of Secretary-General of the Global Satellite Operators Association for over 18 years.
Holla-Maini’s contributions to the space sector extend to her involvement with various organizations and initiatives, including the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Space and the Crisis Connectivity Charter established for emergency telecommunications with the UN World Food Program. With a diverse educational background and fluency in multiple languages, Holla-Maini is well-equipped to promote international cooperation in space exploration and the utilization of space technology for sustainable development.
