The Asia and the Pacific Transport Forum 2024, organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), took place at ADB’s headquarters in Manila on May 14-15, with capacity-development training events on May 16-17. This biennial forum highlights ADB’s role as the climate bank and focuses on the decarbonization and climate resilience of the transport sector.
The 2024 forum emphasized ADB’s support for the transport sector in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable development, positioning transport as a key enabler of development. It covered ADB’s key agendas, including gender, social development, and digitalization, as well as sector-specific topics like rail, urban transport, smart mobility, road safety, and road system operations.
Objectives of the forum included showcasing ADB’s technical and financial assistance, helping developing member country (DMC) officials understand emerging solutions for regional transport issues, and presenting the ADB Transport Sector Directional Guide to support the DMCs’ goal to “build forward better.” The forum:
- Presented solutions for transport to meet global commitments on SDGs and the Paris Agreement.
- Enabled regional transport experts to understand key current and future transport issues.
- Provided a platform for policymakers, thought leaders and practitioners to share experiences on sustainable transport solutions.
- Fostered discussions between ADB, DMCs, private sector clients, and development partners on transport sector challenges and opportunities.
Target participants were key decision-makers in governmental transport agencies, ADB DMC government representatives, transport infrastructure managers, system operators, sector specialists, policymakers, regulators, transport technology experts, and development partners.
