Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the International Exhibition-Convention Centre (IECC) complex at Pragati Maidan to the nation, urging the country to embrace the principle of ‘Think Big, Dream Big, Act Big.’ The magnificent complex has been named ‘Bharat Mandalam’ and is poised to promote India as a global business destination.
The grand opening ceremony witnessed the Prime Minister unveiling the G-20 coin and G-20 stamp, symbolizing India’s commitment to international cooperation. The convention center within the complex was also named in a special ceremony.
Developed as a national project at a cost of approximately Rs 2700 crores (approximately 328 million dollars), ‘Bharat Mandalam’ represents a major leap forward in India’s efforts to showcase its cultural heritage and modernity to the world.
Prior to the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi performed a puja at the complex and felicitated the hardworking ‘Shramjeevis’ who were involved in its construction. The Prime Minister’s vision and inspiration have driven the nation towards the goal of becoming a developed nation.
‘Bharat Mandapam’ draws its name from Lord Basaveshwara’s concept of ‘Anubhav Mandapam,’ symbolizing a pavilion for public ceremonies. It will be accessible to all, providing modern facilities to aid India’s journey towards becoming a developed and modern nation.
Covering an expansive 123 acres, the IECC complex stands as India’s largest Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination. Among the top exhibition and convention complexes globally, it houses state-of-the-art facilities, including a convention center, exhibition halls, and an amphitheater.
The Convention Center, a grand architectural marvel, will host large-scale international exhibitions, trade fairs, conferences, and other prestigious events. Inspired by Indian traditions, its design showcases a blend of India’s rich heritage and contemporary lifestyle. The shape of the building draws from the Shankha (conch shell), while various walls and facades depict elements of India’s traditional art and culture.
From celebrating India’s strides in harnessing solar energy to showcasing achievements in space exploration, the Convention Center exudes confidence in India’s past and future. The multifunctional hall and plenary hall have a seating capacity of 7,000 individuals, surpassing the famous Sydney Opera House.
‘Bharat Mandapam’ stands as a beacon of India’s progress and global presence, a testament to the nation’s commitment to embracing its heritage while forging ahead with modernity.
