The Queensland Government has invested $176 million in the refurbishment and expansion of Cairns’ international convention centre, a move that aims to further establish the city as an eco-tourism and international business events destination.
The Cairns Convention Centre, operated by ASM Global since its opening in 1996, is set to become a hub for various events, including larger conferences that require multiple breakout spaces. The expansion adds 10,500 square meters of space, including a 450-seat theatre-style plenary lecture area, three large meeting rooms, a 500-capacity banquet space, and an outdoor terrace.
Notably, the Trinity Room and Terrace level offer breathtaking views of Trinity Inlet. The expansion project also features a large undercover Porte Cochere adorned with native tropical flora that can be utilized for functions. The Cairns Convention Center is expected to host 160 events this year, attracting more than 35,000 delegates and contributing over $100 million to the region’s economy. The contemporary design and integration with Cairns’ natural beauty make it an appealing venue for event organizers and delegates from around the world.
