On 15 April 2024, Natalie Boal, Executive Director of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), and Phiset Sa-ardyen, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-organize the first Women in Corrections Conference in Bangkok, Thailand, from 19 to 21 February 2025.
Boal emphasized the importance of gender-sensitive approaches to correctional management, noting that traditional methods do not adequately address the needs of women in prison and under community supervision.
The conference aims to bring together professionals from various sectors to share research and practices that enhance public safety and the well-being of women in the criminal justice system.
This event will also celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Bangkok Rules, focusing on what has been achieved and what remains to be done in advancing the rights of women impacted by the criminal justice system.
