The Uttar Pradesh tourism department is embarking on a “tourism renaissance plan” to transform heritage sites into thriving tourist hotspots. The department has invited bids for its Heritage Property Restoration Initiative, an effort to convert heritage sites into five-star hotels and other tourism facilities. The goal is to rejuvenate these historic properties, showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s cultural heritage to the world, with a focus on enhancing tourism. Private partners will be welcomed to restore these sites and help the tourism industry flourish.
Four heritage properties in Lucknow are part of this initiative, including Chhatar Manzil, Kothi Gulistan-E-Eram, Kothi Darshan Vilas, and Kothi Roshan-Ud-Daula. Other sites in different cities, such as Kanpur, Jhansi, Mirzapur, and Mathura, are also included in the plan.
The initiative envisions the creation of hotels, museums, exhibition centres, restaurants, cultural centres, and more at these heritage properties.
The selection process will focus on quality and cost through a methodology known as quality and cost-based selection (QCBS). These properties will be leased for 30 years, extendable twice for an additional 30-year period, up to a maximum of 90 years. The bid parameter is the annual concession fee, and the concessionaire will also share 1% of the gross revenue from the property. The minimum reserve price for the annual concession fee is set at Rs 1 lakh.
This initiative aims to breathe new life into historical treasures, boost tourism, and promote responsible travel in the region, all while preserving and showcasing its rich heritage.
