The Hotel Association of India (HAI) has released a report, ‘Vision 2047 for the Indian Hotel Industry: Challenges and the Road ahead’. MP Bezbaruah, the Secretary-General of HAI, explained in an interview that the report outlines a vision for the future rather than a concrete plan. It aims to provide guidelines for key areas and help members supplement their efforts.
The document, developed over six months by an external agency, targets not only HAI members but also a wider audience of hoteliers across India and the potential contribution of the hospitality sector to India’s economy.
The report suggests that half of the projected $3 trillion tourism economy could come from the hospitality sector. It emphasizes creating new integral destinations and encourages the growth of Tier 2 and Tier 3 areas for tourism. It aligns with the Government of India’s convergence idea, emphasizing the need for infrastructure development, including civil aviation and connectivity.
It also addresses challenges related to travel and tourism growth, aiming for 100 million foreign tourist arrivals and around 15 billion domestic footfalls by 2047.
