India celebrated a significant milestone in its G20 Presidency by hosting its 100th G20 meeting, the Meeting of Agriculture Chief Scientists (MACS) in Varanasi. It marked a pivotal moment in India’s year-long G20 Presidency, which commenced on December 1, 2022, and will continue until November 30, 2023.
Under the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth. One Family. One Future), Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who assumed the G20 Presidency at the G20 Bali Summit in November 2022, has overseen a diverse array of G20 meetings held across 41 cities in 28 states and union territories of India.
With over 12,300 delegates from more than 110 nationalities participating, these meetings have drawn attention to pressing global issues. India has also promoted the concerns of the Global South and developing nations, with increased participation from African countries. The G20 Presidency has been characterized by cultural exchanges, showcasing India’s rich diversity, and numerous public engagement activities.
Key areas of focus during India’s G20 Presidency include inclusive and resilient growth, progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), green development, technological transformation, reforming multilateral institutions, women-led development, and international peace and harmony. The substantive discussions and enthusiastic participation reflect the collective commitment of G20 members and invitees to address global challenges during India’s presidency.
