San Francisco has identified India as a key tourism source market for recovery from the pandemic’s impact, with India ranking third among the city’s top overseas visitor markets in 2022. The San Francisco Travel Association anticipates a 34% growth in Indian visitors in 2023, with a projected 63% spending increase, making India one of the fastest-growing source markets.
Pre-pandemic, India was the fastest-growing market, and the trend is resuming post-Covid. The city, popular among Indian tourists visiting friends and relatives and staying in Silicon Valley, aims to convert more business travellers to leisure travellers. Increased incomes in India, along with expanded air routes, contribute to the growth, and Air India has increased its SFO network to three Indian destinations, doubling seat capacity.
San Francisco, with tourism contributing nearly $10 billion annually and creating 80,000 jobs, is set to open five new hotels in 2023, bolstering its recovery efforts.
