India has secured the hosting rights for the prestigious International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) Congress in 2027, marking the first time the country will host the event. The successful bid, overcoming competition from 58 countries, was announced during the XXI INQUA Congress in Rome.
INQUA, founded in 1928, serves as a global representative body for Quaternary science, fostering cooperation and research on issues like geophysical processes, climate change, and environmental impacts. The 100th edition of the conference will take place in Lucknow’s Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences. The event, held every four years, is a significant platform for Quaternary science, focusing on the Earth’s last 2.6 million years.
The hosting rights provide an opportunity for Indian researchers, particularly those engaged in climate change studies. India’s rich geological, biological, and cultural diversity is expected to contribute to global discussions on Earth processes.
