India’s 1st ever conference on invisible disabilities

by Events_India

India hosted its inaugural national conference, “From Invisible to Visible,” at the International Purple Fest in Goa. Organized by Chronic Pain India in collaboration with government bodies and advocacy groups, the conference aimed to raise awareness and initiate dialogue around invisible disabilities.

Key discussions revolved around diagnosis, treatment, certification, education, employment, gender, mental health, caregiving, and policy advocacy. Participants shared personal stories, highlighting the intersecting challenges of gender, sexuality, and disability, especially in navigating societal expectations.

The conference emphasized the need for inclusive education, accessible infrastructure, and supportive policies to empower individuals with invisible disabilities and their caregivers. With over 350 participants, the conference set the stage for future advocacy efforts, including the creation of a national directory of specialized healthcare professionals and policy advocacy with the Union Ministry.

Through these initiatives, organizers aim to make invisible disabilities visible, challenge societal stigmas, and advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals living with such conditions.
