The Kerala government will host a global Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit in Kochi in mid-2024, following discussions with IBM India. Industry Minister P Rajeev and Principal Secretary Suman Billa held talks with IBM’s senior vice president Dinesh Nirmal, leading to an agreement for IBM to establish its AI hub in Kochi.
This move is expected to attract top technology professionals globally and foster reverse migration, particularly benefiting the IT sector’s new generation. The government sees this as an opportunity to double IBM’s staff and attract other industry players.
It will involve collaboration with various entities such as IT Parks, Kerala Startup Mission, and universities. Additionally, preparations are underway to position Kochi as the country’s primary AI hub, with discussions also addressing Samsung’s plans to launch a centre for semiconductors and chip design.
