The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) has taken a significant step towards environmental sustainability by subscribing to the Green Electricity Tariff (GET), an innovative program launched by the Malaysian Government and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the nation’s largest electricity utility company.
This subscription ensures that the Centre will be powered by renewable energy sources, making it the first business events venue in Malaysia to participate in this eco-conscious initiative. Through this program, the Centre will obtain renewable electricity sourced from solar power plants under Malaysia’s Large-Scale Solar (LSS) Program and TNB’s hydropower and renewable energy plants.
This aligns with the Centre’s commitment to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) targets, guided by Malaysia’s sustainability agenda, industry commitments, and corporate social responsibility programs.
John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, highlighted the Centre’s commitment to ESG practices and sustainability leadership in the business events industry. The subscription to GET allows clients to host events powered by green energy, contributing to the Centre’s attractiveness as a preferred venue for sustainable events.
The Centre’s sustainability initiatives go beyond energy sources, encompassing waste reduction, recycling programs, food waste minimization, sustainable sourcing, and even a rooftop hydroponic farm. It collaborates with partners in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Business Events Alliance to transform the entire KLCC precinct into a sustainable destination.
