Meliá Hotels International has introduced “Road to Net Zero Events,” an initiative aimed at measuring, reducing, and offsetting the carbon footprint of meetings. The program utilizes technology to calculate the carbon footprint at the quoting stage and the end of the event, offering event organizers insights to make environmentally responsible decisions aligned with the hotel group’s sustainability commitments.
The carbon emissions generated are then offset. Initially available for large events at a dozen Meliá hotels in Europe and the Caribbean, the initiative will expand to include more hotels over the coming months.
The mid-term goal is to encompass all properties in the group, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in the meetings segment. José Miguel Moreno, VP of Corporate & MICE Sales Strategy, highlighted the initiative’s contribution to creating greener events that inspire and connect people.
