New Zealand’s largest trade show for the business events sector, MEETINGS 2023, achieved the country’s Toitū net carbon zero certification. The Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA), the official association for the industry, spearheaded efforts for sustainability, involving 220 exhibitors, 500 buyers, the Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre, partners, and suppliers.
The Toitū event certification offers a foundation for ongoing carbon reduction, with a greenhouse gas emissions reduction plan implemented for the three-day event in June. Initiatives included offsetting air travel, encouraging offsetting of travel and freight emissions, promoting reusable items, reducing printed material, minimizing F&B waste, endorsing walking to the venue, and incorporating eco-friendly practices such as sustainable packaging and biodegradable gifts.
The Toitū Envirocare program certifies MEETINGS 2023 under international standards, emphasizing environmental integrity and sustainability and positioning the event as a model for conscientious actions against carbon emissions.
