The Organization for Human Brain Mapping (OHBM) is an international society dedicated to advancing knowledge of the human brain’s anatomical and functional organisation through neuroimaging. It facilitates the exchange of groundbreaking research across neuroimaging methods via member-led committees and an Annual Meeting held globally.
Mission: It aims to advance the understanding of human brain organization and promote its medical and societal applications.
Objectives: It brings together researchers using MRI, fMRI, PET, EEG/MEG, electrophysiology, preclinical imaging, neuroepidemiology, and genetics. It also facilitates communication and education among scientists.
History: The first gathering of brain imagers was held in Paris in 1995, organized by Bernard Mazoyer, Per Roland, and Rudiger Seitz, attracting over 800 participants. A subsequent meeting in Boston in 1996 led to the formal establishment of OHBM, incorporated in 1997 in Copenhagen. The initial gatherings and workshops laid the foundation for OHBM, leading to the creation of the Human Brain Map database workshops by Peter Fox and catalyzing the organization of researchers in this evolving field.
Annual Meeting: The Annual Meeting of OHBM is a premier event attracting leading researchers and students, continually evolving to meet the needs of its members and the student post-doc group. It remains a central platform for sharing advancements in human functional neuroimaging, solidifying its place in the scientific mainstream.
