Neil Brownlee, the Head of Business Events at VisitScotland, has been appointed as the Chair-Elect for 2024 by PCMA, marking the first time a non-North American professional has held the position. The announcement followed the approval of the 2024 Board of Directors and Trustees Slate on September 1, 2023, with the new leadership set to take office after PCMA’s Convening Leaders event in January 2024 in San Diego.
Brownlee, who brings 35 years of experience in the international hospitality and business events industry to the role, is well-positioned to steer PCMA into a new era of global impact. His extensive experience at VisitScotland Business Events, where he’s worked for 15 years, has involved collaborating closely with the Scottish Government and developing national business events strategies.
Working alongside Leonard Hoops, the incoming PCMA Chair and President/CEO at Visit Indy, Brownlee will play a crucial role in advancing PCMA’s mission to promote economic and social transformation through business events worldwide. Brownlee expressed his enthusiasm for the role and his honour in becoming the first non-North American Chair-Elect, emphasizing the alignment of his experience with PCMA’s goals.
Sherrif Karamat, President and CEO of PCMA and CEMA, praised Brownlee’s leadership and vision, acknowledging the importance of volunteer roles like this in achieving PCMA’s 2030 vision as the global platform for the business events industry. Brownlee’s understanding of professionals’ needs and characteristics is expected to result in strong advocacy on the board’s behalf.
