Samarkand, Uzbekistan, has unveiled a new website showcasing its investments in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) infrastructure. With over $580 million invested in the Silk Road Samarkand complex and a new terminal at Samarkand International Airport, the city aims to position itself as a premier MICE destination.
The website serves as a comprehensive resource for event planners, featuring details on venues, accommodations, and upcoming MICE events in the city. The flagship venue, Congress Centre, has already hosted notable international events and is set to host the UNWTO General Assembly in October 2023.
Traditionally known for cultural tourism, Samarkand’s recent focus on MICE facilities and business hotels signals a shift in its tourism offerings. Uzbekistan’s visa-free policy for 90 nationalities, safety reputation, and strategic air and rail connections make it an attractive destination for business travellers. Samarkand is strategically positioned to host MICE events that would have traditionally taken place in Russia or Ukraine.
