Kuching, the capital city of Sarawak, Malaysia, has secured the honour of hosting the International Water Association World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028, making it the first destination in the ASEAN region to achieve this distinction. The event is anticipated to draw 10,000 delegates from 80 countries.
The theme for the 2028 congress is “Sustainability and Innovation for Water Resilience.” The event is particularly significant as Sarawak’s water sector is undergoing a transformation in alignment with its PCDS 2030 plan, focusing on economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
The IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition in 2028 will have a substantial impact on the global water industry, with economic benefits and legacies that resonate among stakeholders, professionals, and policymakers in the field. The bidding mission was led by Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak, Haji Abdul Rahman bin Junaidi, and supported by various Malaysian entities and industry counterparts.
