IMEX America 2023, the global events industry’s grand return, opened with a remarkable display of vitality. The event saw a 20% increase in exhibitor space and a 9% rise in the number of booths, totalling 360 – making it the largest in its 12-year history. Nearly half of all exhibitors expanded their booth sizes, and every sector experienced growth, with some showing double-digit expansion.
The event has 70,000 meetings scheduled between 4,000+ buyers and 3,400 exhibiting companies on 360+ booths. Asia Pacific and Africa stood out for increased floor space, with Morocco doubling in size, Ho Chi Minh making its debut with partners, and Japan and Hong Kong Tourism Board booths at least twice as big as before. US and Canadian exhibitors also grew by 19%, while the hotel sector made a statement with a 23% expansion, including Hilton and IHG.
The event featured 65 new booths, including Mexican Caribbean, Santa Clara (California), Greenville (South Carolina), Jio World Convention Centre (India), Explori, and Meow Wolf. This growth highlights the industry’s resilience, bouncing back quicker than expected from the pandemic.
The event prioritized innovation and learning, with the Inspiration Hub featuring various theatres, a Wellbeing Wheel, Google Xi CoLaboratory, and IMEX|EIC People and Planet Theater. Accessibility and sustainability were key design considerations for this year’s event.
