Tourism ministry proposes ‘Travel for LiFE’ certification for tourism products and services

by Events_India

The Ministry of Tourism in India is launching the “Travel For LiFE” certification and badges for tourism products and services as part of its global campaign. This initiative aims to promote sustainable and responsible tourism by allowing travellers to identify products and services committed to these principles. “Travel for LiFE” is built upon the spirit of the Goa declaration and the G20 Tourism Ministers’ roadmap, both of which emphasize sustainable tourism practices.

The campaign is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Tourism, UNWTO, UNEP, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC). The objective is to encourage responsible and environmentally friendly travel and to appreciate the diverse cultures that make the world unique.

The launch of this global campaign aligns with India’s commitment to global unity, collaboration, and sustainability, as demonstrated during the recent G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi. The campaign addresses the challenges posed by climate change and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting sustainable lifestyle practices.

To ensure the effective implementation of the Travel for LiFE program, Atul Bagai, Country Head of UNEP in India, suggested the creation of a steering committee led by the Secretaries of Tourism and MoEFCC. He also proposed changing the tagline “Atiti Devo Bhava” to “Prakriti Devo Bhava” to encourage a shift in mindset towards nature.

During the launch event, the Ministry of Tourism recognized winners of the Best Village Tourism competition for 2023, honouring 35 rural tourism projects from various states under gold, silver, and bronze categories.
