The 9th edition of the World Cities Summit took place from June 2 to 4, 2024, in Singapore. This three-day event included the main conference and featured key activities such as the WCS Mayors Forum, the WCS Young Leaders Symposium, the Lee Kuan Yew World Prize Award Ceremony and Banquet, as well as an exhibition.
The biennial World Cities Summit (WCS) served as a global platform for government leaders and industry experts to address challenges related to livable and sustainable cities, share integrated urban solutions, and forge new partnerships. Since its inception in 2008, WCS attracted participation from over 250 cities worldwide, represented by leaders from government, business, international organizations, and academia.
The theme for WCS 2024 was “Liveable and Sustainable Cities: Rejuvenate, Reinvent, Reimagine.” The summit emphasized that thriving cities deliver well-being for all, both in the present and for future generations. Amid the climatic, financial, and societal stresses of the time, cities needed to continuously evolve and adapt.
WCS 2024 explored opportunities and strategies to create smart, resilient, and regenerative cities, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for all residents. Delegates engaged with the theme through five thematic tracks: Cities for People, Resilient & Regenerative Cities, Smart Cities, Sustainable Financing of Cities, and Future Cities. Each track featured plenaries, in-depth discussion sessions, special convenings, and roundtables organized with strategic partners to ensure rich and diverse discussions. The summit highlighted the critical importance of collaboration and innovative solutions in shaping the cities of the future.
