The 18th Heads of State and Government Summit of the Group of 20 (G20) is scheduled to take place in September 2023 in New Delhi, India, with India holding the Presidency of the G20 from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023. This summit will be conducted under the overarching theme of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ emphasizing the interconnectedness of all life forms on Earth and beyond.
The G20 process involves extensive work throughout the year, including Ministerial Meetings, Working Groups, and Engagement Groups, with the Leaders’ Summit serving as the culmination of these efforts. During India’s Presidency, the focus will also be on ‘Lifestyle for Environment’ (LiFE), promoting environmentally sustainable choices at both individual and national levels to create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
Key Working Groups will concentrate on diverse tracks such as agriculture, anti-corruption, culture, digital economy, disaster risk reduction, development, education, employment, environment and climate sustainability, energy transitions, health, trade and investment, and tourism. These groups will deliberate on priorities that will be reflected in the Leaders’ Declaration, a commitment by G20 leaders to address and act upon the discussed issues.
The G20 comprises 19 countries and the European Union, representing a significant portion of the global economy, population, and trade. The member countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US. India’s Presidency seeks to address critical global challenges and advance collaborative solutions in line with the overarching theme of interconnectedness and sustainability.
